Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand has achieved the 49th position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 for young global universities. The university has also secured the top spot in New Zealand for global research impact, the second spot in the Australia-New Zealand region for international outlook, and is recognized among the world’s top 20 millennial universities founded in the 21st century. AUT offers diverse programs in engineering, management, and health sciences.
In an interview with Careers360, Guy Littlefair, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor International, discussed various aspects such as accommodation, visas, scholarships, and part-time work opportunities for students. According to Littlefair, Indian students often choose AUT for its one-year master’s programs, including construction management, engineering, computer and information sciences, supply chain management, and IT project management. With over 250 courses available at all levels, AUT appeals to Indian students due to its comprehensive range of programs, covering fields like sports science, design, business administration, and more.
Regarding the duration of postgraduate programs, most are one-year master’s programs, while some extend to 18 months. Health sciences programs, involving clinical and allied health sciences, have a two-year duration, considering the clinical component and the need for registration compliance.
Littlefair explained the visa procedure, stating that students completing a master’s program, regardless of its duration, receive three years of study rights in New Zealand. Additionally, they obtain one year of post-study work right for each year of study, making the country an attractive destination for international students.
To attract more Indian students, AUT emphasizes the importance of international education, highlighting the competitive program fees and high-quality education offered in New Zealand. In 2024, AUT plans to provide 130 scholarships for international students, equivalent to a 50% rebate on students’ weekly rental expenses, totaling $9,060 per annum at the Āhuru Mayoral Drive student accommodation facility for the first two semesters. However, it’s important to note that the scholarship does not cover additional costs such as accommodation application fees, student residential life fees, security bonds, or other associated expenses.
